Workshop - Creative Expression
A dive into creative photography and how to build confidence breaking the 'rules'
Service Description
This workshop explores how to turn an idea into an image. Have you ever had an idea for a shoot but struggled to work out where to start? Perhaps you have a picture in your head but can't quite translate it into a set, a lighting style or a finished image. Or perhaps you've been given a client brief and need to turn someone else's idea into something creative, achievable and exciting. This is where we get stuck in. This is a hands-on, immersive day of creative photography, where we'll explore what it takes to turn an initial idea into a finished concept — from the first spark of inspiration through to the final image. We'll look at how to build a concept, develop a visual narrative and make creative decisions along the way. That might mean styling a set, choosing props, experimenting with lighting, directing your subject or finding ways to create impact with the equipment and space you already have. We'll explore how lighting can help tell a story, how small changes can completely transform a scene, and how to push an idea further when the obvious solution isn't quite enough. You'll also get the chance to experiment with creative approaches that might sit outside your usual style or comfort zone — because sometimes the best way to find your creative voice is to try something completely different. And because creative photography doesn't happen in a vacuum, we'll also look at the practical side of bringing ideas to life. How do you interpret a client brief? How do you create something exciting while working to a budget? How do you know where to spend your time, money and creative energy? Along the way, we'll share plenty of simple tips and tricks to help you get more from your set, your lighting, your camera — and your client. Come with an idea. Leave with a new way of thinking about photography. With a maximum of 5 photographers, this is a relaxed, collaborative and practical day. There will be plenty of opportunity to experiment, ask questions, get involved and see how creative decisions are made in real time. Don't worry - you don't need to come with a concept. Some notes: 9:30am Meet and greet for 10am Start with 4pm Finish. Lunch will be provided - please state on the booking form if you have special dietary requirements.
